Step 1: Make sure your iTunes is up to date.
Step 2: Download the latest iPad firmware from, www.iclarified.com/8500/where-to-download-ipad-firmware-files-from
Step 3: Save the downloaded firmware to a folder that is easily assessable (like on your desktop).
Step 4: Put the iPad in restore mode by connecting it to the computer via usb cable, Hold the Power and Home button until the device turns on and as soon as the Apple logo appears release the power button but continue to hold the home button. A smaller itunes logo with a power cable icon should appear.
Step 5: When it says restore this ipad, click Restore and Update while holding the Shift key on your keyboard. A directory will pop up which will allow you to locate the ipad firmware that you previously downloaded in Step 2. Click the firmware and it should restore the ipad, without downloading the firmware again.
Note: If a pop up saying the ipad firmware is not for this device, then you have the wrong firmware downloaded or selected. If the restore does not go through the first time, always try a second time, sometimes iTunes is just crappy. If it fails a second time, try on a different computer.
